Balancing authority area

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

A balancing authority area comprises a collection of supply resources, transmission, and loads within metered boundaries for which a responsible entity (a balancing authority) integrates resource plans, maintains the area's load-resource balance, and supports the area's interconnection frequency in real time. Balancing authority areas were formerly known as control areas.
