Single-phase feeder tapped off from a three-phase line

Single-phase feeders and taps are used to take power from three-phase lines and feed it to customers taking single-phase service. The single-phase system has two lines: one line that carries power plus a neutral ground wire. These lines are typically used in residential subdivisions or other places that don’t need access to three-phase service. Using single-phase lines in these areas is cost-effective since fewer wires and transformers are required.
